# Relationship trauma therapy in Temecula.

In-person therapy for the after-effects of an abusive or controlling relationship, with secure telehealth across California.

![Soft coastal dunes at low light — a calm horizon.](/assets/trauma-soft-dunes-DkYS1qSb.jpg)

I see clients in person at my Temecula office and by secure telehealth across California and New Jersey. Murrieta clients are seen in person here too — the office is a short drive up the 15.

Temecula is small enough that privacy matters. The office is a suite in a shared building with general foot traffic, so arriving looks like arriving anywhere. Nothing on the door names what happens inside.

If in-person feels like too much exposure right now, telehealth is a full option rather than a lesser one, and plenty of people start there and never switch.

For the clinical detail on how this work runs, see the main [relationship trauma](/specialties/relationship-trauma) page.

What this looks like

## What this _looks like._

Replaying conversations from a relationship that ended a long time ago

Reading a mood from the sound of a door, in a house where nobody is angry

Leaving, expecting relief, and feeling worse instead

Struggling to trust your own account of what happened

Finding the same dynamic waiting in the next relationship

## How I work

I am Katelin Hanhart, LCSW, licensed in California (#92638) and New Jersey (#44SC05665400). I work relationally and directly. We start by understanding the pattern that is active now, not by forcing you to tell every hard story in the first hour. We build enough safety and regulation that your system does not have to choose between shutting down and flooding.

With abuse specifically, the order matters. We do not go at the memories until there is somewhere steady to come back to, because reliving something without that footing just repeats it. Once the ground is there, the work may include parts work to understand the roles you built to stay safe, somatic tracking for what your body still braces against, DBT skills for the moments that flood you, and EMDR when a specific incident keeps arriving as though it is happening now. I am trained in EMDR and use it inside an integrative approach, never as a script dropped on top of you.

Honest geography

Temecula clients can meet in person at the Temecula, CA office. Secure telehealth is also available across California. This is the practice's one physical office.

## If you're in danger right now

Therapy is not an emergency service, and this page is not the right starting point if you are currently unsafe. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is free, confidential, and open 24 hours a day at 1-800-799-7233.

## Common questions

The relationship ended a long time ago. Why is this still affecting me?

Because your nervous system learned something in it, and learning like that does not expire on a schedule. What kept you safe then is still running now, in situations that no longer call for it. That is not you failing to move on. It is old information that has not been updated yet.

I was never hit. Does this still count?

Yes. Coercive control, financial control, isolation, and sustained emotional abuse cause real and lasting harm, and they are often harder to name precisely because there is no bruise to point at. You do not need a physical incident to qualify for support.

What if I do not remember it all clearly?

That is extremely common and it is not a sign you are unreliable. Memory under threat does not record in a tidy line. We work with what is there, and gaps are treated as information about how much you were carrying, not as a credibility problem.
