They search because something is stuck. Maybe you have talked about the story and can explain it clearly, but your body still reacts before your mind catches up. Maybe a sound, a smell, a facial expression, or a certain kind of silence drops you somewhere you do not want to go. Maybe you are tired of being told to breathe through something your nervous system experiences as present-tense danger. I am Katelin Hanhart, LCSW, licensed in California (#92638) and New Jersey (#44SC05665400). I am trained in EMDR and use it as part of an integrative approach for adults carrying trauma, relational wounds, addiction recovery themes, and the weight of helping professions. Murrieta clients can meet in person at the Temecula office or by secure telehealth across California. What this looks like ## What this _looks like._ EMDR helps the brain reprocess memories that were stored in a raw, unfinished way. The memory does not vanish. It becomes less live. It stops pulling the present around it. We begin with history and target mapping: what needs work, what can wait, and what should not be touched yet. We build stabilization first, especially if trauma work is new or your current life is already stretched thin. Processing uses bilateral stimulation while you notice images, sensations, thoughts, and shifts without forcing a detailed retelling. Integration makes sure the session closes with you oriented, grounded, and able to return to your day. EMDR can be powerful. That is why timing matters. If you are in acute crisis, active danger, or without enough support, stabilization comes first. ## How I work I do not treat EMDR as a machine we run because the page title says EMDR. I use it inside a therapy relationship that pays attention to attachment, parts, body cues, skills, and consent. Some memories are ready for processing. Some need preparation. Some need the life around you to become safer before we go deeper. For many Murrieta clients, the Temecula office is close enough to make in-person EMDR realistic without turning therapy into a major commute.
